Partnering With God For a Prosperous Future

Happy New Year!

We’ve made it to 2025! If we’re honest, though, 2024 wasn’t all easy. There were tough moments—times when we felt like giving up. But here we are, still standing. That’s worth celebrating.

As we step into this new year, we can’t promise that everything will be smooth. Life doesn’t work like that. But here’s the good news: you’re not facing it alone. There’s a story in the Bible that inspires me during uncertain times. In Mark 8:1-10, Jesus feeds over 4,000 people with just a little bread. It’s not just a cool miracle—it’s a lesson about handling life’s challenges and thriving, even when things feel impossible.

The Story

Jesus had been teaching a crowd for three days. They were tired, hungry, and far from home. Instead of sending them away depleted, he sees the need and moves with compassion. Jesus asked a simple question:

“How many loaves do you have?” At first, this might sound odd. Why does it matter how much bread they have when it’s not enough? But Jesus was teaching them something important.

Here are four takeaways from the story that can help us navigate 2025.

1. See What You Already Have

Jesus’ question helped the disciples realize what they already had. Sometimes, we’re so focused on what we lack that we miss what’s right in front of us. What skills, resources, or opportunities do you already have that could make a difference in your circumstances? Take inventory of what you already have because you already have enough to change your situation. Thus, we become co-creators with God.

2. Surrender What You Have

The disciples told Jesus, “Seven loaves.” It wasn’t much, but they gave it anyway. Sometimes we think, “What I have isn’t enough.” But when you give your best, even small things can lead to big outcomes. When we place our little into Jesus’ hands, little becomes much if we allow him to do the work without interference.

3. Step Aside, Trust and Let Go

After handing over the bread, Jesus instructed the people to sit down. I imagine him telling them, “Now get out of my way and let me do my job.” Jesus blessed it, broke it, and started sharing it with the crowd. Imagine the disciples’ surprise when it didn’t run out! This shows the power of trusting the process, even when you don’t see the whole picture.

4. Share the Overflow

Not only was everyone fed, but there were leftovers! When we offer what we have, we often end up with more than we started. That abundance becomes something we can share with others.

What About This Year?

As we move through 2025, I do not know what the future holds, but I am convinced that whatever life brings, the question remains: “What do you have?” Whatever it is, it’s enough for God to break, bless, and give back to you.

Trust that even small beginnings can lead to great outcomes when you’re willing to share and step back to let things unfold. This year might not be perfect, but it holds plenty of opportunities to grow and thrive.

So, as you look ahead, remember to ask yourself: “What do I have?” Then, be ready to see how it can turn into something extraordinary.
